Automatic Visio drawing from database (SQL server, Access)

It drives Visio software to draw system diagrams according to their definitions in the database, as produced earlier with Amarco Designer or Amarco Repository. It uses visibility control algorithms that bring a unique quality to the drawings. It acts also as a manager for Visio diagrams, insuring an automatic processing of your selection of Visio diagrams.

The drawing is an unattended operation for 95%. The 5% left is the creative part of the Information Architect. Like in real architecture, the architect has a view about how buildings are distributed, what is their size, what is their shape. He can try multiple variants. When he chooses a variant, he may use a tool to fill in all the details.

This is exactly what Amarco Cartography does for you. The tool presents the objects on the drawing table - on the screen. As architect, you chooses their position and size. The use of the Visio drawing package for that purpose is intuitive.

Then, if satisfied, you requests the drawing to be made (press a button!). The tool will do all the hard work. It will generate and put all the drawing elements: colors, service points, connection lines, labels. It looks for trajects that avoid objects. At the same time it uses placement algorithms to insure maximum visibility according to the object's position chosen by you.

The diagram obtained is a standard Visio drawing. In most cases, the drawing produced may be used as it is, without any further intervention. If needed, you can also use the standard Visio tools, to add by hand personal elements. 

Link drawings to additional information on a Web site. Amarco Cartography can export the drawings with drill up, drill down navigation and associate graphic items with additional information pages.

Amarco Cartography acts as a command center where you can manage any number of Visio diagrams. Each diagram is referenced in the database, with all its parameters. This enables automatic drawing. Multiple diagrams may relate to the same system and may provide partial specialized views.

Amarco Cartography may process automatically multiple drawings. This is most useful when you change same labels, or need to export related drawings as linked web pages.

You have multiple possibilities to define the features of the drawing that will be drawn automatically. All these parameters are stored in a database and will be used later for an automatic drawing regeneration.
